"And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how." Mark 4:26-27
How wonderful to see a seed placed in the ground and in time notice the first blade break through the earth. Eventually it grows to produce food for our bodies. All this from a simple seed.
The most fascinating part is that all we can do is plant the seed that God provided in the ground that God provided and water and fertilize it with the means that God has provided. We then reap the harvest of food that God provided. There seems to be very little we have to do with the increase. That is in the hands of God.
To often we think that God requires more from us than we can produce but the reality is that God only needs our willingness and He will do all the work. Just as we cannot make the flowers bloom or the grass grow, we can do no good in ourselves. We cannot make ourselves acceptable in the sight of God. Only through the blood of Jesus Christ can we become presentable. Cleansed by His righteousness and not our own. It is also interesting to think that God takes a seed that can hardly be seen and produce an abundant harvest. All He asks of us is to, “have the faith of a mustard seed.” He then will provide the increase.
So, the next time you plant a seed or set a small flower or plant, think of how little God asks of us and how much He has and will provide for us. He truly is an awesome God!
