There is an old saying, “As long as there are tests, there will be prayer in school!”

There is a lot of truth to that statement. I remember sweating over exams in my school years and praying I would at least get a C so I could skim by. I regret to say I was not very focused on my grades then and had other things on my mind besides reading a book and giving a report on it. That being said, prayer becomes a part of a young persons life out of desperation for a passing grade.

Today as I reflect on school and learning it’s interesting that I have curiosity in things I never cared about as a youth. Funny how things change over the years. History is fascinating where before it was a boring class about a bunch of dead people. Prayer has become a vital part of my relationship with Christ unlike a last effort plea when facing a test.

If we would only consider the power that is released in a simple prayer I venture to say we would pray all the more. Knowing that staff are restricted or limited to lead open prayer in most schools and the reading of the Bible by staff openly has been quenched, this does not prevent the power of God from entering and working within the walls of our schools.

We have scheduled our annual PrayerWalk in our local schools of Sevier County and our church is covering 4 schools. Every other school in our county will be prayed over by believers in local churches. It is an exciting time and opportunity to walk the halls and place a hand on the door of a classroom to lift up the teacher and students that will enter the room to be kept safe and for the Holy Spirit to give wisdom and introduce Christ to each one.

No, prayer and Bible reading is not the 1st thing heard over the loudspeaker in the classrooms each morning but no one or nothing can prevent you from saturating our schools with prayer. The privilege of prayer that God has given to us should not be taken lightly but we must continually pray, as the Word says, “Pray without ceasing.”

Realize that prayer breaks down strongholds, opens doors, shuts doors, and the “effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Join us at one of the schools on August 6th and add to your personal prayer list our local schools staff and students this year. Invest in our youth by praying that we see many saved this year and lives changed for the Kingdom of God.
